Odyssey finally released on PC on May 19, 2021. It was then delayed a second time as COVID-19 restrictions in the United Kingdom were renewed. Odyssey was originally scheduled to release in December 2020 simultaneously on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, but was delayed to early 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Development of Odyssey started in August 2018, and was officially announced on June 3, 2020.

Frontier Developments described it as the biggest update yet and a defining moment in the history of the game.
